- Rethink– Now could be a perfect opportunity to recreated your practice in the way you wish it to be. Lockdown has been a silver lining for many who are now rethinking what involvement they want in their practice – for some it has shown them that they love family time and don’t want to go back to working until 9pm at night! Some have decided it’s time to take control and implement better rules of engagement and procedures and others have thought about offering amended or even completely new services. Maybe now is the time to collect outcome data to demonstrate the quality of your services? What do you want your ‘new’ practice to look like? Grab a blank piece of paper and jot down what your perfect practice would be like.
- Replan – Once you’ve got an idea of what you’d love your new practice to be like, it’s time to take stock of your current reality. What do you have that will support the future of your practice and what will get in the way? Maybe you want to be able to do more online and your current practice management system (or lack there of) is hindering you. What don’t you currently have in place that you need for your new perfect practice? Perhaps it’s a piece of equipment to enhance treatment or a great website that attracts your perfect patients? If you’ve spent enough time in step one (Rethink) outlining what your perfect practice will look like in every element you’ll be able to map out a clear plan of what you need to keep doing, what you need to ditch and what you need to adopt.
- Redo – You can think and plan as much as you like but it does come down to the doing! Doing is the hardest part but if you break tasks down into smaller steps it becomes more manageable. An action set as ‘redo website’ can be completely daunting and you just never get around to it. Break it down into the small steps you’ll take to get there and then schedule them. Set time aside to do certain types of tasks – I know with many of us home with children (whether they are small, teenage or adult!) it is even trickier now! An hour before everyone gets up can be golden (and beautiful golden sunrises are a bonus too at the moment!) or perhaps you have somewhere you can close the doors and get on with things for an agreed set time. Where there is a will there is a way!
We hope that our thoughts have helped you and most importantly, we hope that you are all well and keeping safe.
